| Storm Water Treatment Systems |
MCAS Miramar EMD is scheduled to install 19
storm water treatment systems throughout the industrial areas of the
air station. The purpose of the systems is to capture and remove
pollutants from storm water runoff before entering in to Rose Canyon
and eventually the Pacific Ocean. The pollutants being captured
include oil, debris, trash, and sediment. This project will ensure
that the station stays ahead of environmental compliance
requirements and will help protect and enhance the environment on
and around MCAS Miramar. |
| Soil Erosion Restoration |
MCAS Miramar EMD along with Brown and Caldwell
have developed plans to mitigate soil erosion on the air station at
18 different sites. The projects include retaining walls, pipes, and
ditches designed to slow down the sloughing of top soil. Phase one
of the project consists of re-forming the slopes and putting
nutrients back in the soil. Phase two will involve bringing in
native plants to help preserve the soil. MCAS Miramar EMD expects to
have phase one completed by the end of 2009 and phase two completed
in 2012. |
