Program Overview

The Natural Resources Division is responsible for Cultural Resources Management and Compliance aboard MCAS Miramar.  Primary resources of management and conservation concern involve archaeological sites in the undeveloped portions of the Station.  The Flying Leatherneck Museum is managed separately by the Flying Leatherneck Historical Foundation.

History of Miramar

The land currently occupied by the Station has been used for diverse activities, and has passed through several hands throughout its history, including those of three nations, several private citizens, and all four branches of the United States military.   Detailed History of Miramar

  • Section 106, National Historic Preservation Act Consultations:

The Natural Resources Division staff for the Environmental Management Department processes these consultations on behalf of MCAS Miramar.  Action proponents are responsible for ensuring the preparation of documentation needed to support Section 106 consultations.  Documentation requirements are described in the National Historic Preservation Act links above.
